Of import INFORMATION
The product information label lists the Grandfather Clock model number and series number. The Grandad Clock model number and serial number are essential for obtaining parts or service. The production information label may be located in several locations: outside the shipping carton, dorsum of door, dorsum of the Grandfather Clock, top of the Grandfather Clock, inside the top back corner of the Grandfather Clock, or within the Grandad Clock above the back of the dial. For piece of cake reference in the time to come, take a moment to tape these numbers.
BASIC Operation OF A Granddad CLOCK
At the heart of every Grandpa Clock is the motion. The motion controls the hour strike, time keeping, and chime. The pendulum and weights are disquisitional components to performance of the Grandfather Clock move. The pendulum provides the ability to regulate and adjust the time keeping. Every bit described within these instructions, adjustments to the pendulum to achieve authentic time keeping is hands accomplished. The three weights provide power to the hour strike (left weight), fourth dimension (middle weight), and chime melody (right weight). Without these weights, the Grandfather Clock would non operate. Each weight is different and must be properly hung from the motion (left, center, right) to ensure proper operation. Weights are hung from the move by a cable or chain. The weights must be raised at to the lowest degree every 7 days or the Grandfather Clock will stop. Raising cable driven weights is accomplished through use of a crank. Raising chain driven weights is accomplished by pulling downwardly on the loose end of the chain. The strike and chime sounds are fabricated past a series of hammers hitting diverse length rods. Each rod makes a different sound when hit by a hammer. Specific chime melodies are achieved by controlling the sequence that each hammer hits a respective rod.

SETTING UP YOUR GRANDFATHER CLOCK
Unboxing Your New Gramps Clock:
a) Cutting the nylon bands around the shipping carton and open up the box from both side.
b) Remove the box from on top of the clock. This will contain your product manual.
c) Remove the paper-thin side supports within the carton.
d) Remove the Gramps Clock pendulum packaged in a carve up tall, thin cardboard box.
e) Slide the clock out of either one of the sides of the box.
f) Advisedly "walk" the clock off of the cardboard bottom support once out of the box.
Located in the bottom of the shipping carton volition be a white styrofoam box. This box contains:
a) a key to fit your Grandfather Clock door,
b) a crank which will be used to current of air your Grandfather Clock and,
c) weights which operate the Grandfather Clock movement.
Also, inside the aircraft carton volition be the Gramps Clock pendulum packaged in a split cardboard box.
Move the Granddaddy Clock close to its final location.
WARNING: ENSURE Grandfather Clock IS POSITIONED SQUARE AND FIRM ON THE FLOOR And then THAT IT Will Not Fall OVER. ADJUST LEVELERS FOR MAXIMUM STABILITY AND PROPER ALIGNMENT.
Admission to the Grandfather Clock motion, chimes and cables is made in 3 possible means; through the forepart door(southward), through the meridian side panels (or side doors
on some Grandfather Clocks), or through the back access panel. The top side panels are held from the inside by tape or a plastic prune. The plastic prune may exist turned
or tape may be removed permanently. Refer to the General Data department in section 10 for proper instructions to remove and install summit side panels.
Remove the paper-thin sleeve from effectually the chime rods by first cut the rubber band with pair of scissors. Practice NOT PULL ON THE Condom Ring TO Interruption. Side by side, grasp the paper-thin sleeve as marked and pull straight down and off the ends of the chime rods. (See figure one). Remove the foam pads from between the chime hammers and chime rods by first cutting the rubber ring with scissors. Do NOT PULL ON THE RUBBER Band TO Interruption. Care should be taken to avoid bending the chime hammers. The chime hammers will be free to move allowing easy removal of the foam pads. Remove the jump clip from the dorsum side of the motility past offset pulling one end free. (Run into effigy 1).
If there is a long paper-thin sleeve and no rubber bands, simply pull down slowly on the cardboard sleeve from the front end of the clock and the packing will release on it's ain. Then pull out the foam behind the chime hammers and yous take completed this step.
DO NOT REMOVE THE STYROFOAM BLOCKS from in a higher place the cable pulleys. This is i of the almost critical points in the entire set-up operation. Doing and then at this time could cause the cables to overlap and bind the motility. You lot can remove the styrofoam blocks After your Grandfather Clock is totally ready and has been operating for most twelve (12) hours or when they are completely costless to remove.

2. LEVELING YOUR GRANDFATHER CLOCK
Position the Grandfather Clock into its concluding location. Once in place, your Grandpa Clock cabinet
must be leveled, equally the Grandpa Clock may not operate if it is not level. At that place are four levelers under the cabinet on each corner that tin can be screwed in (up) or
out (down) to make adjustments. Place a level alongside the Grandfather Clock cabinet from front to dorsum and side to side, adjusting the levelers until level. It may be necessary to periodically check your cabinet later initial set-upwardly, (especially if the Gramps Clock is on rug), as it might settle subsequently original leveling. (meet effigy two). Ensure Grandfather Clock is positioned square and firm on the floor so that
it will not fall over.

iii. HANGING THE PENDULUM
Note: To perform the post-obit steps Howard Miller suggests wearing cotton gloves or using a soft cloth when handling parts.
Some pendulums have a colored protective plastic film covering the pendulum disk. Carefully remove this flick before hanging the pendulum. To hang the pendulum, locate the pendulum guide through the front door, or
any of the side or back access panel locations. While holding the pendulum guide with one manus, sideslip the pendulum in through the forepart door with your other hand. Identify the pendulum hook over the pin or through the slot on the pendulum guide, and lower the pendulum until it is hanging securely on the pendulum guide. (Run into figure 3).
______________________________________________________________
iv. HANGING WEIGHTS Practise Non REMOVE THE STYROFOAM BLOCKS until after your Grandfather Clock has been operating for at to the lowest degree twenty-4 (24) hours. Most Gramps Clocks use three weights. The lesser of each weight is labeled Left, Middle or Right facing the Grandfather Clock. The total weight of each weight is slightly dissimilar and each WEIGHT MUST BE INSTALLED IN ITS Correct LOCATION FOR THE Granddaddy Clock TO OPERATE PROPERLY. Check the weights to ensure that they are tightly assembled. Check to make sure that the cable is in the cable pulley. Hang the weights on the pulleys. (See figure 4). |
______________________________________________________________
5. SETTING YOUR MOON DIAL If your Grandfather Clock has a moving moon dial feature, follow these instructions. To set moon punch, apply slight pressure level with your fingers to the front end of the moon dial. Rotate the moon punch Clockwise until the moon is directly below #15. (Encounter figure five). If the moon dial will not rotate, wait 6 hours and try again. Never strength the moon dial as information technology should movement easily. Using an almanac or calendar, determine the date of the last full moon. Count the number of days by the concluding full moon. Turn the moon dial Clockwise i click for every solar day past the full moon. The moon dial is at present set and will indicate the proper moon phases as long as the Granddad Clock operates continuously. If the Granddaddy Clock stops for more than 24 hours, the moon dial will also stop, and must exist reset when the Gramps Clock is started again. |

six. SETTING TIME (moving the hands) To set up the time, motion ONLY THE Infinitesimal Mitt counter Clockwise (backwards) until hour and infinitesimal hand are at the right fourth dimension. (Run into figure half dozen). Exercise NOT Motility THE HOUR Mitt WHEN SETTING THE Time. The hour hand will move automatically when the minute hand is moved. Past moving the infinitesimal hand counter Clockwise information technology is not necessary to expect for the Grandpa Clock to chime as the minute hand passes each quarter 60 minutes. (See figure vi). The motility has a self correcting feature which synchronizes the chimes with the fourth dimension. If later on setting the Grandfather Clock on fourth dimension, it does not chime properly, allow it to operate 2 hours to correct itself. Circumspection ON MOVEMENTS WITH Automated Chime SEQUENCING: The chime pick lever should not exist in the "Motorcar" position when moving the easily. Moving the hands in either the Clockwise or counter Clockwise direction while the automatic chime sequencing is in functioning could harm the chime mechanism. |
______________________________________________________________
vii. STARTING THE Grandad CLOCK Reach through the front door of the Grandpa Clock and place your hand on the side of the pendulum disk. Move the pendulum to the far left of middle and release. Permit the Grandfather Clock operate a few minutes until the pendulum settles into an fifty-fifty swinging move. (See figure seven). If your Granddad Clock gains or looses time after 20-four (24) hours, encounter General Information Section to regulate the timekeeping of your Grandfather Clock. Subsequently the Grandad Clock has run for at to the lowest degree twenty-four (24) hours, remove the styrofoam blocks past lifting the blocks straight upward until they clear the cable caster. And so gently push them back, through the cables. |

10. HOW TO REMOVE/INSTALL THE TOP SIDE PANELS FROM THE GRANDFATHER CLOCK
Your Grandfather Clock may have wood or glass summit side panels. When removed, you lot take admission to the Grandfather Clock movement and chinkle surface area. The panels may be held in place during shipment by tape or a plastic clip. In order to remove the panel, reach in through the front door and turn the plastic clip or remove the record. And so follow these steps: 1. Grasp the wood slats or knob with the tips of your fingers. Be conscientious not to push on the grill material or glass as y'all might separate it from the woods top side panel. ii. Lift the superlative side panel upwards. It rests in a groove on the bottom edge. 3. Push the bottom edge of the top side panel toward the center of the case while at the same time, pull the top edge down and out of the groove in the tiptop of the opening. 4. Tilt the top edge of the top side console toward the instance center. 5. Remove the top side panel from frame opening, bottom end kickoff. When installing wooden or drinking glass top side panels contrary steps 1 thru 5.

eleven. RAISING WEIGHTS The weights must be raised every vii (vii) days or the Grandpa Clock will finish. Cables with pulleys: Weights that are suspended by cables with pulleys should be raised by using the crank provided. Do NOT lift the weights past hand while cranking. Insert the crank into the creepo holes located in the dial face (See effigy fifteen), and plough the crank counter Clockwise. This volition raise the weights. Y'all cannot overwind the Grandad Clock and the weights demand to exist near the superlative to run the Grandfather Clock for 7 days. Be sure to remove the crank earlier shutting the door. |
______________________________________________________________
12. REGULATING TIMEKEEPING Irresolute the speed of time keeping is accomplished past moving the pendulum disk up or down. The pendulum disk is moved up or downwards by turning the adjustment nut. To slow the Grandfather Clock downwards, motion the pendulum deejay downwards by turning the aligning nut to the left. To speed the Gramps Clock upwardly, move the pendulum deejay upwards past turning the aligning nut to the correct. (Meet effigy 17). Day One You may read more about how to go along your Pendulum Clock accurate hither |
______________________________________________________________
Many Gramps Clocks will offer a night fourth dimension shutoff pick. At that place are iii options on this lever.
ane) "Night On" - This will keep the chime striking 24 hours
2) "Dark Off" - This position will plough off the chiming between 10:15PM and 7:00AM
three) "Strike" - This position will allow the movement to strike the hr without the Westminster tune if the other Westminster melody lever is turned to Silent.
______________________________________________________________
fourteen. Chinkle Pick Selecting the chinkle melody is accomplished past a choice lever on the Granddad Clock punch. Some models play only the Westminster chime, while others requite you a selection of three melodies. Option of the chinkle sequencing characteristic or ane of the three chime melodies is done with the selector lever. If the punch states "Chime-Silent," your Gramps Clock has merely the Westminster chime. If your Granddaddy Clock has a triple chime motility, the chime lever identifies the melody choices. All floor Grandfather Clock movements take the Big Ben hour gong which volition count the hour, on the hour. DO Non attempt to move the chime pick lever while the Grandfather Clock is chiming. Doing so could damage the chime mechanism. See figure xviii for when it is safe to motion the chime selection lever without dissentious the motility. Move Chinkle SELECTION LEVER Simply WHEN Minute Hand IS IN Condom TIME Area |

TROUBLE SHOOTING
fifteen. DIFFICULTY TURNING THE MOON Dial Equally you face the Grandfather Clock, remove the summit side panel, open the side door, or remove the back access console. Look at the back side of the punch and locate the click spring. Put your finger at the tip of the click spring. Pull the click spring approximately 1/two" back away from the saw tooth moon dial and so release. (Run into effigy 19). The click spring and dial should snap into proper alignment. If the click spring is in its proper location and yous still feel resistance when trying to advance the moon punch Practice Not Forcefulness IT. If the moon punch withal cannot be easily advanced, this indicates that the gears that automatically accelerate the moon dial are engaged. To correct this rotate the minute paw backwards three hours as describe in Pace five of the setup performance. You may read more about how to set your Moon Dial on your grandpa clock here |

16. Granddad CLOCK DOES NOT Chime AT PROPER Fourth dimension
If the Grandfather Clock chimes more than ane minute before or later the proper fourth dimension, the
infinitesimal manus should be removed and adjusted.
Circumspection: When performing this performance exist careful not to scratch the hand nut, hand or dial.
1. When the Grandfather Clock starts to chinkle, stop the pendulum and record the fourth dimension.
2. Using pliers, carefully remove the small nut that holds the minute hand in place by turning the nut counter Clockwise while at the aforementioned time concur the minute hand with your fingers near the small nut.
3. Remove the hand from the hand shaft by grasping information technology with your fingers at the point where it attaches to the shaft. Pull the hand straight off. This hand is non screwed on and should come up off hands. The minute hand has a small raised area on the dorsum side directly effectually the shaft hole, this is the hand bushing. Using
pliers, grip the bushing firmly by its sides so that it cannot skid in the pliers. With your other hand, turn the Grandfather Clock hand forward or backward the distance necessary to chime at the correct fourth dimension. (See figure twenty).
4. Re-attach the paw to the shaft and turn the hand nut finger tight. Make sure the hand points to the right location that yous recorded in Step 1 plus any corrections you lot fabricated in step three. If the hand does not point to the correct marking, repeat steps 2 and three.
5. Snug upward the hand nut with the pliers. Do non over tighten.
half dozen. Offset pendulum.
7. Re-set the time by moving ONLY THE Minute Manus counter Clockwise (backwards) every bit described in Stride 5 of the set-up functioning.
Example: Grandfather Clock chimes at 1:10 but should chime at 1:fifteen .
Step one: When Granddaddy Clock chimes at 1:10 stop the pendulum and record the time of ane:10.
Step 2: Carefully remove the small nut.
Footstep 3: Remove the minute hand. Grip the bushing by its sides and plow the hand forward 5 minutes.
Step iv: Reattach the hand so information technology points to one:xv. Attach the hand nut finger tight.
Step:v Snug upwards the hand nut.
Step half-dozen: First pendulum.
Step 7: Reset Grandpa Clock to current fourth dimension.
______________________________________________________________
17. Grandfather CLOCK DOES Non STRIKE THE Right HOUR
If later on several hours of performance your Gramps Clock does not strike the correct hour, grasp the 60 minutes HAND ONLY and move it forward or astern to line up with the correct hour on the dial indicated by the number of times the hour strikes. Rotating this hand independently will not damage the Grandfather Clock. If the minute hand needs to be reset (to correct time), movement the minute mitt counter Clockwise (backwards) as described in Pace five: Setting Fourth dimension.
______________________________________________________________
1. Make sure that the selection lever is not in the "silent" position or halfway betwixt ii chime melody positions?
2. Make sure that all the packing cloth is removed from the move expanse.
3. Make sure that the weights are hanging in the correct location Check the characterization on the bottom of each weight to ensure proper location.
4. For models with nighttime silencing, brand certain that the Grandad Clock is not in the nighttime silence mode. (Reference: See Automatic NIGHTTIME SHUT OFF Pick in General Information Department).
five. Bank check hammer adjustment and correct chinkle tone as necessary.
6. Move the chinkle selection lever to a different melody or to "silent".
vii. Information technology is possible that the styrofoam blocks located above the cablevision pulleys are binding the cable. Carefully remove the styrofoam blocks by lifting the blocks direct up until they articulate the cable caster. So gently button them back through the cables. Exercise not apply tools to remove the blocks. Practise non permit the cable to overlap on the drum.
